Workshop Introduction

Many of HushTug's products are made here at D.bell (formerly Handbag Suzuki) .
This is a long-established bag manufacturer with a history of approximately 90 years and the skills to produce for brands that are used by the Imperial Household .
All products are handmade by artisans, and their sewing and technical skills are among the best in Japan .
History of D.bell (formerly Handbag Suzuki)
The company was founded in Ueno about 90 years ago as a company that made drawstring bags for geisha.
At its peak, the company produced 2,000 to 3,000 pieces per month, and has attracted so much attention in the industry that it has never had a day of non-stop work since its founding.
However, due to the coronavirus, the number of orders decreased and the company was facing a crisis.
It was at this time that we came across HushTug, and we were inspired by their philosophy of "sharing the incredible technology hidden within the world with the world," and we decided to have them take on almost all of HushTug's production.
Japan's highest level of technology supports the quality of HushTug

They have generously poured the knowledge they have gained from producing products for various brands into HushTug products.
・Reinforce parts that will be subject to stress as you use them. ・To bring out the beautiful changes that occur over time, consider the texture of parts of the same shape and choose materials that create a consistent overall look. ・Assess the texture and appearance of the leather and tailor it to suit each individual product.
From a professional perspective, we pay attention to details that ordinary people may not notice.
Combining the strengths of both "manufacturers" and "craftsmen"
In the world of bag making, the work is generally divided between "makers" and "craftsmen."
The strength of manufacturers is that they can provide a wide range of services based on the client's wishes, from design suggestions and material selection to cost adjustments.
However, if the client does not understand manufacturing and structure, they may prioritize cost and end up not providing sufficient reinforcement, which may result in repairs or defects occurring after completion.
On the other hand, craftsmen use their experience and skills to specialize in durable construction that can be used for a long time and beautiful tailoring.
However, without a clear design image or cost guidelines, prioritizing technology can lead to excessive specifications, making mass production difficult.
D.bell is a rare product that combines the strengths of both .
By carrying out all production in-house, we are able to understand the overall structure as a manufacturer while paying close attention to the fine details as craftsmen, achieving the ideal balance of durability and beauty .
D.bell's true strength lies in its ability to respond to brand requests by proposing not only aesthetics but also designs that are "resistant to breakage even after long-term use."
Invisible reinforcement creates overwhelming durability
Bags are items that are subjected to more stress than they appear.
At D.bell, we understand each of these issues through experience and theory, and we make efforts to compensate for the weaknesses of leather , such as by reinforcing areas that are subject to stress with nylon material.
This reinforcement technique is not commonly used in ordinary workshops.
This prevents the leather from stretching or tearing while preserving the natural leather texture.
The reinforcement is applied to the handles, shoulder straps, pull tabs, straps, and even the stitching that cannot be seen.
For the peace of mind of the user, craftsmen pay particular attention to the parts that cannot be seen .
If we make 100 bottles, we inspect all 100 of them.
D.bell's quality control is among the strictest in Japan .
While many manufacturers rely on random inspection, D.bell's standard is to inspect every item .
From the moment the materials arrive until they are shipped, they are meticulously checked in seven steps.
-
Material inspection (check the condition of leather, lining, and metal fittings)
-
Inspection after cutting (check for scratches and unevenness)
-
Material selection (unifying color and texture due to lot differences)
-
Parts inspection (removing defects at the component stage)
-
Artisan inspection (checking stitching, thread processing, and dimensions)
-
Finishing inspection (safety check using needle detector)
-
Pre-shipment inspection (rechecking for changes during storage)
If even one bottle does not meet the standards, it will not be delivered.
This thorough approach is the reason why D.bell is known as "the best in Japan."
From D.bell (formerly Handbag Suzuki) to our customers

Our workforce in Japan's leather industry is aging, with an average age of 70, and we have been struggling with a lack of successors.
However, Japanese leather technology is at a level that is competitive on a global scale , and there was a strong desire to not let this tradition die out.
HushTug's designs are comparable to other Japanese brands, but at about half the price.
I was deeply impressed by the company's corporate efforts to "create products that impress customers."
We put all of the knowledge we've gained over our 90 years of history into every HushTug product we make.
We are confident that we have created a wonderful product that develops its own character the more you use it, and we believe that you will definitely be able to experience its quality once you use it.
Please take this opportunity to try out the products we have worked so hard to create.
