How to deal with leather problems
If you encounter unexpected trouble such as being caught in a sudden rain shower or getting scratched, please try the solutions listed on this page. If you take the correct measures, you will not damage the leather's texture. Take care not to panic.
If it gets wet
Wipe off any wet areas with a cloth
First, wipe off any water-soaked areas with a dry cloth.
When doing this, rubbing too hard can damage the leather, so be sure to press a cloth against the surface to absorb the water.
If water has penetrated to the inside of the leather, place newspaper or towels inside the product to dry it thoroughly. If the moisture is not removed from the inside, stains may appear on the surface later.
2. Stuff with newspapers to prevent deformation.
If the product gets wet, stuff it with newspaper or other materials to prevent it from losing its shape.
The most important thing to be careful of when it gets wet is the loss of shape. When leather gets wet, it becomes overly soft and loses its original shape. If you leave it as it is, the shape will become fixed in a deformed state, so be careful.
3) Allow to dry naturally
Once you have done the above, leave it to air dry in a well-ventilated area of your home (such as a hallway) until it is completely dry.
Do not expose to direct sunlight or use a hair dryer to speed up drying. Also, refrain from using the product until it is completely dry.
④ Apply oil
Once the product has completely dried, apply a leather care oil such as mink oil (→ https://amzn.to/2Rz863D ) to the wet areas.
When leather products get wet, they lose the oils inside and become dry, which can lead to cracks and other problems.
This concludes the care instructions.
Once moisture has penetrated into the leather, appropriate action is required, so it is a good idea to apply a waterproof spray such as Collonil (→ https://amzn.to/2TDs6EU ) to prevent recurrence.
If the product is scratched
① Apply repair cream
First, apply repair cream in the color that best matches your product to the damaged area.
There are no specific requirements for leather repair cream, but HushTug recommends Saphir repair cream (→ https://amzn.to/36c9L4p ).
This cream comes in dozens of colors, but please see below for information on which cream to use.
・Black leather: No. 1 Black ・Himeji leather brown: No. 32 Boa Brown
・Himeji Leather Navy: Navy Blue No. 6
(For products currently on sale that are close to the dark navy color)
*For navy and brown, the leather color may vary depending on the time of purchase.
If you would like to check the details, please contact us using the inquiry form .
I believe that applying this cream will make the marks less noticeable.
② Scrub with a brush
Once the cream has completely dried, as a finishing touch, gently scrub for around 2 minutes with a soft-bristled brush such as M. Mowbray's Horsehair Brush (→ https://amzn.to/3659UXi ) to make any scratches less noticeable.
Rubbing too hard can damage the leather, so rub only hard enough to crush the tips of the bristles by about 1 cm.
This concludes the care instructions.
If the scratches are deep enough that you can see that the surface has been gouged out, there are methods on the Internet that suggest smoothing the surface with sandpaper. However, we do not recommend this as it may make the situation worse.
We recommend that you contact a repair service such as HushTug's service (→ https://shop.hushtug.net/ ).
If wrinkles appear
① Prepare a thin cloth
Place a thin cloth, such as gauze, over the wrinkled area.
② Use a dry iron
Place a 90-100℃ dry iron (no steam allowed) over the fabric for about 3 seconds. Press the iron down without moving it.
3. Check for wrinkles
Once you have done the above, check to see if the wrinkles have disappeared. If they haven't, repeat the same process.
This concludes the care instructions.
If the wrinkles are deep and cannot be resolved with the above methods, we recommend that you contact a repair service such as HushTug's service (→ https://shop.hushtug.net/ ).
If dirt gets on the product
① Prepare a leather eraser
Prepare a leather eraser (→ https://amzn.to/38racJu ). You can also use a stationery eraser instead.
② Rub the surface
Gently scrub the surface, gradually increasing the pressure if the stain does not come off.
This concludes the care instructions.
If the above does not resolve the issue, we recommend that you contact a repair service such as HushTug's service (→ https://shop.hushtug.net/ ).
