[HushTug] The first sample of the bi-fold mini wallet is now complete!
Hello, I'm Nakajima, a designer at HushTug.
This time, I'd like to introduce a new sample that has been completed.
The sample created this time is a wallet, a genre that HushTug has not yet developed, so if you are interested, please read to the end.
About the sample
First, here is the finished sample.
This is a bi-fold wallet, a shape commonly seen with other brands.
HushTug has offered long wallets until now, but since we hadn't released a bi-fold type yet, we decided to create a sample.
Leather used
The leather used this time is called "Pure Shrink," characterized by a slightly different, finer grain in its embossed pattern.
This is the grain of the leather used for HushTug's tote bags, and this is the grain of Pure Shrink.
Comparing them, you can see that Pure Shrink has a more fine grain.
Also, the surface texture of Pure Shrink is slightly firmer, giving it a more substantial feel.
Currently, for small leather goods, we are developing products with two types of leather: the standard shrink leather and Pure Shrink.
We are adopting the Pure Shrink type for medium and long wallets, and plan to gradually transition to it.
Regarding the exterior specifications, it features a painted edge finish, resulting in a very beautiful and smooth edge.
Interior specifications
Next, let's talk about the interior specifications.
The interior has this design, with the logo embossed in gold foil.
There are four card slots on each side, for a total of 8 card slots.
Additionally, there are two free pockets on each side.
And the bill compartment is divided into two, allowing you to separate 10,000 yen bills and 1,000 yen bills, or receipts and bills.
While many wallets typically have a coin case on one side, this design features card slots on both sides.
Therefore, there is no space for coins.
The interior is entirely finished with leather, giving it a luxurious feel.
The reason for development
The reason we created this sample is because one of our HushTug employees uses a bi-fold wallet from another brand, and the conversation came up, "HushTug doesn't have a bi-fold wallet, does it?" So, we decided to try making one.
He uses a wallet without a coin case, only storing bills and cards, and carries a separate coin case.
Therefore, this sample also has a design that omits the coin case.
While there are integrated wallets, the coin compartment can sometimes lose its shape or add bulk, so he prefers a bi-fold type without a coin purse.
HushTug offers compact wallets like the smart wallet, but we don't yet have products specifically for coin cases, so we are considering developing coin cases that can be used as a set in the future.
Storage Capacity and Functionality
Next, I'll introduce the storage.
First, it can hold 4 cards on each side, for a total of 8 cards.
Designed with ample width, it allows for smooth insertion and removal.
Additionally, with two free pockets, it can also store cards and receipts.
The bill compartment allows for separate storage of 10,000-yen and 1,000-yen bills, and receipts can also be stored separately.
While the deep storage allows for bills to be placed deep inside, it might become difficult to retrieve them if too deep, so it's best to use it at a moderate depth.
Also, it features a stepped design, allowing you to easily open it by hooking your finger.
Some bi-fold wallets have a stepped design, while others don't, but we've added a step to make it intuitively easier to open.
Regarding storage capacity, it's designed to hold 10 cards, several bills, and items in the free pockets, offering more storage than its appearance suggests.
Since there's no coin compartment, its card storage capacity is excellent.
Summary
This first sample is of very high quality, and if there are no issues after practical use, it's at a level where it can be commercialized as is.
The quality is such that it might be released in the near future.
