This time, the sample for our newly developed large-capacity shoulder bag has been completed, so we would like to introduce its design, functionality, and the story behind its development in detail.
Responding to requests for "a bag that can hold A4 files and laptops"
While assisting customers at our Harajuku and Ikebukuro stores, we frequently hear requests such as:
- "Do you have a bag that can fit A4 files?"
- "I want a shoulder bag that can fit a 13-inch laptop."
Our current HushTug shoulder bags are sized to fit an iPad (11-inch) or similar.
Many customers told us that this was somewhat insufficient for business use.
Therefore, we decided to develop a new shoulder bag that can comfortably fit A4 files and 13-inch laptops.
Exterior Features: Combining Simplicity and Storage Capacity
Here is the completed sample.
It features a wide gusset and ample width.
It also offers excellent functionality, with two divided exterior pockets on the front and pockets on the sides that can hold plastic bottles or tumblers.
The design is kept as simple as possible, while providing the storage capacity needed for daily use.
About the exterior pockets
The wide front pocket in the current sample is divided into two sections.
In actual use, it proved very convenient for storing items you want to grab quickly, such as a smartphone or keys.
For the next sample, we are considering keeping a pocket only on one side of the front and removing the other to achieve a simpler look.
About the side pockets
The side pockets were designed to hold plastic bottles, but they take up internal space. Therefore, we are considering either increasing the gusset width or removing them entirely.
Interior Construction: Combining Practicality and Luxury
The interior features a smooth polyester lining.
It is also water-resistant, designed to accommodate items such as plastic bottles and folding umbrellas.
The internal pocket configuration is as follows:
- 1 zippered pocket (sized to fit a long wallet)
- 2 open pockets (for mobile batteries or pass cases)
The edges of the pockets are finished with leather, creating a luxurious contrast with the lining.
Furthermore, the zipper extends all the way down, allowing the bag to open wide, similar to our mini Boston and Boston bags, making it easy to put items in and take them out.
Capacity: Sufficient for a 1-night trip
In actual use, it could easily accommodate a 13-inch laptop and A4 files, and 500ml plastic bottles or tumblers could be stored upright.
It has the same storage capacity as our ZIP daypack and leather tote, resulting in a shoulder bag that can hold as much as a backpack.
However, a challenge is that when too many items are packed, the strap digs into the shoulder.
Therefore, for the next sample, we plan to implement improvements such as adding padding to the strap.
Wearing Scenes: Suitable for both business and casual use
When worn, it feels just right whether carried over the shoulder or across the body. Its ample width gives it a substantial yet smart appearance.
Moreover, it can hold more than it looks, making it suitable for 1-2 day business trips or travel.
Future Improvement Points
Key areas for improvement identified from the first sample include:
- Shoulder strap comfort (adding padding)
- Adjusting the front pocket design (making it asymmetrical)
- Reviewing the presence and size of side pockets
- Reinforcing the strap base (preventing deformation due to load)
We will address these points to refine the product and prepare it for commercialization.

The large-capacity shoulder bag introduced this time is a new model born from the real feedback of our customers. It can accommodate A4 files and 13-inch laptops, and features a simple yet luxurious design.
