[HushTug] The first sample of the two-layer tote bag is now complete!
Hello! This is Nakajima, a designer at HushTug.
This time, I'd like to introduce a newly completed sample bag.
This sample is a "two-layer tote bag."
This model achieves a structure and large capacity not found in conventional tote bags.
Background of development
This development began with the desire to create a "large-capacity tote bag that is dressier than a Boston bag."
It combines design and functionality to be active in a wide range of situations such as sports, travel, and business trips.
Design Highlights
◎Two-layer structure
At first glance, it's a simple tote, but the biggest feature is the independent zippered storage space at the bottom of the bag.
This space has a core material, so you can store shoes, clothes, souvenirs, etc., without crushing them.
The convenience of being able to access it separately from the main compartment is a major highlight.
◎Top of the bag has a secure zipper
The main compartment opening features a zipper closure.
While the existing soft large tote had a snap closure that left it open, we incorporated customer feedback asking for a "secure zipper."
◎First-time interior fabric adoption
Furthermore, this sample features an interior fabric that is a first for HushTug products.
Made of nylon material, it's easy to clean even if it gets dirty, and the glossy fabric creates a luxurious feel.
For this first sample, we chose navy, which was in response to customer feedback that "black makes it hard to see the contents."
It offers higher visibility, combining practicality and design.
About improvements
Since this is the first sample, designer Nakamu-san's self-evaluation for the "two-layer tote bag" is 50 points.
Moving forward, we are considering the following three points for improvement for the second sample:
①Lightening the weight
It currently weighs about 1.7kg. We plan to thin the leather by about 0.5mm to lighten it to around 1.5kg, similar to the Boston bag.
②Zipper section improvement
To address the issue of the zipper easily crushing, we will devise a sewing method. We aim for a more three-dimensional finish.
③Suitcase compatibility
We plan to add a pass-through belt on the back to slide over a trolley handle. We are currently considering ways to do this without compromising the simple design.
About storage capacity
The two-layer tote bag has a capacity of approximately 30L.
It is designed to be slightly larger than HushTug's Boston bag, which has a capacity of about 26L.
Here are some examples of what can be stored in each space.
①Lower compartment
The lower part alone has a capacity of 7L, where you can store shoes and clothing.
Even with clothes in the bottom, there is still enough room for a 13-inch laptop.
②Main compartment
You can fit clothes, a gadget pouch/multi-case for your PC and chargers, and even a 500ml plastic bottle vertically.
Even with all these items, there's still room, making it a sufficient capacity for business trips or travel.
The interior also features a zippered pocket and two slip pockets.
The zippered pocket can hold a long wallet, while the slip pockets can store a card case, mobile battery, and smartphone.
Summary
The "Two-Layer Tote Bag" allows you to organize your belongings with its two-layer structure.
With its large capacity and luxurious design, it is versatile for everything from daily use to travel.
Going forward, we will further enhance its completeness through improvements to the 2nd sample.
