Mini tote bags for commuting seem to be on the rise recently!?
We asked commuters who use them comfortably about their "user experience"!
"Maybe I don't need that much for my commute."
"It would be easier if my business bag was a bit smaller."
Have you ever thought something like this?
Recently, more and more people are incorporating smaller bags into their commutes.
This is because for people who don't carry anything other than their PC, traditional business bags are becoming "a bit too big."
"I want a smaller bag that's also great for business."
For those people, we'd like to introduce the "Zip Mini Tote" from leather brand HushTug.
This time, we interviewed a customer who has been using the Zip Mini Tote for over half a year.
-
Mr. K, late 20s, lives in Tokyo.
-
Works in the advertising industry and carries a laptop.
-
Has been using the HushTug Zip Mini Tote for daily commutes for about half a year.
-
Initially learned about HushTug through a sacoche, and this is his second favorite item.
How did choosing the Zip Mini Tote change his daily commute?
"My daily commute has become a little more comfortable."
Please take a look at the reasons for this change.
This will surely be helpful not only for those looking for a commuter bag, but also for those who think, "Mini totes aren't suitable for commuting, are they?"
My nylon bag faded and became worn out.
I was looking for a good bag.
-First, what kind of bag did you use before?
-K-san: I used to use a nylon backpack.
I've gone through about three of them, replacing them every two to three years.
Since they were made of nylon, they tended to fade and become overall worn out over time.
They also looked a bit cheap, so I was starting to feel a little anxious, thinking, "Haven't I been using the same kind of bag since I was a student?"
And I often had problems with functionality.
Several times, the shoulder straps nearly ripped off or the zippers broke.
-That sounds tough...
-K-san: Yes. I bought them with the expectation that they would break.
Also, rainy days were particularly difficult.
The fabric absorbed water easily, so I was constantly worried if the contents inside were getting wet.
I was torn between a mini tote and this one, but considering I'd be using it for commuting, I decided on the Zip Mini Tote because having a zipper felt more secure.
Escape the hassle of backpacks! Comfortable commuting with a mini tote
-What do you think of the Zip Mini Tote after using it?
-K-san: I'm very satisfied. I'm not just saying that (laughs).
First, I really appreciate how easy it is to use on the train during my commute.
When I used a backpack, it was often a hassle to carry it in front of me on crowded trains, or it took up too much space on my lap when I sat down. I had to be mindful of many things.
In contrast, the mini tote is just the right size to fit neatly on my lap, and I'm happy that it doesn't bother others.
I can quickly grab it when getting on and off, making it stress-free to use.
-Thank you! You mentioned that backpacks were too big. How about the size of the mini tote?
-K-san: I think it's just the right size.
It looks compact, but it fits my laptop perfectly, and it's perfectly usable for work.
It's also very convenient because it's so easy to take with me for a quick outing.
Honestly, it's a bit of a hassle to go out during lunch break carrying a big business bag, isn't it?
And it's hard to find a place to put it when you're eating lunch.
In that regard, this Zip Mini Tote is really easy to use because it's easy to carry and its size means I don't have to worry about where to put it.
-Thank you for your kind words. Are there any other highlights you've noticed?
K-san: What I found surprisingly convenient is that it can stand on its own.

When I place it on the floor at a cafe or office, it stands upright without collapsing, which is very convenient.
It also looks smart, and though it's a small detail, I thought "ah, this is good" when I used it.
Also, when I used a backpack, the back of my suit would get wrinkled when I wore it, but with the mini tote, I don't have to worry about that, which is very helpful.
Furthermore, even if I go out directly after work, it doesn't feel too business-like and blends well with casual clothes.
It's great that the design can be used naturally even on holidays, not just for work!
Concerns and desired improvements for the Zip Mini Tote?
-Do you have any concerns about deterioration or getting wet when using the Zip Mini Tote?
-K-san: So far, I haven't felt any concerns about that at all.
Because it's genuine leather, I feel like it's becoming more comfortable with each use, and I really like that.
-Thank you. Are there any areas you feel could be improved with the Zip Mini Tote?
There are no major complaints, but if there were other size options, I would choose one of those.
When I put my PC in the Zip Mini Tote, the zipper can be a bit difficult to close.
It's not that I'm terribly inconvenienced, but I would be happy if there was just a little more room.
For commuting, I store my PC with the zipper open, and on holidays, I use it with the zipper closed for everything except my PC!
The Zip Mini Tote is recommended for these people
-Who would you recommend HushTug's Zip Mini Tote to?
K-san: I especially recommend it to those who don't carry a lot of belongings.
Since it's compact, it doesn't get in the way on crowded trains, making commuting during rush hour a bit easier.
Also, I think it would be well-received by those who want to carry a "proper-looking bag."
The Zip Mini Tote has a simple and understated design, so it makes you look more mature just by carrying it.
Also, even though it's made of genuine leather, it's priced under 30,000 yen, which is affordable, so it felt easy for me to try.
We had her show us what she keeps in her Zip Mini Tote during her commute.
When I'm at work, it's mainly my 13-inch laptop and gadgets. Plus, I always carry my long wallet, sunscreen, perfume, and earphones.
There's still plenty of room, so if I buy a plastic bottle when I'm out, I put that in the bag too.
