This time, the sample for the new large-capacity shoulder bag we developed has been completed, so I'd like to give you a detailed introduction to its design, functionality, and the background of its development.
Responding to requests for "a bag that can hold A4 documents and laptops"
While assisting customers at our Harajuku and Ikebukuro stores, we frequently hear comments like these:
- "Do you have a bag that can hold A4 files?"
- "I want a shoulder bag that can fit a 13-inch PC."
HushTug's current shoulder bags are sized to fit about an iPad (11 inches).
We received many comments saying that this size was somewhat insufficient for business use.
Therefore, we decided to develop a new shoulder bag that can comfortably fit A4 documents and a 13-inch PC.
Exterior Features: Combining Simplicity and Storage Capacity
Here is the completed sample.
It features a design with a wide gusset and ample width.
It's also highly functional, with two divided exterior pockets on the front and pockets on the sides that can hold a water bottle or tumbler.
The design is as simple as possible, while providing the storage capacity needed for daily use.
About the Exterior Pockets
The wide front pocket on the current sample is divided into two sections.
After actually using it, I found it to be very convenient for storing items you want to access quickly, such as smartphones and keys.
For the next sample, we are considering keeping a pocket on only one side of the front and removing the other to achieve a simpler look.
About the Side Pockets
The side pockets were designed to hold water bottles, but because they put pressure on the internal space, we are considering either increasing the gusset width a little more or removing them entirely.
Interior Structure: Combining Practicality and Luxury
The interior features a smooth polyester lining.
It's also water-resistant, so it's designed to hold items like plastic bottles and folding umbrellas.
The interior pocket configuration is as follows:
- One zippered pocket (sized for a long wallet)
- Two open pockets (for a mobile battery or card case)
The edges of the pockets are made of leather, creating a luxurious feel through contrast with the lining.
Additionally, the zipper is designed to open all the way down, allowing the bag to open wide, similar to mini Boston bags and Boston bags, making it easy to put items in and take them out.
Capacity: Capable of handling a 1-night trip
In actual use, it can comfortably fit a 13-inch PC and A4 files, and even a 500ml plastic bottle or tumbler can be stored upright.
With a storage capacity comparable to our ZIP daypack and leather tote, it has become a shoulder bag that can hold as much as a backpack.
However, a challenge is that if you pack too much, the strap digs into your shoulder due to its large capacity.
Therefore, for the next sample, we plan to make improvements such as adding padding to the strap.
Wearing Scenes: Suitable for both business and casual use
When actually worn, it feels like a good size for both shoulder and crossbody wear, and its solid width gives it a smart look while still having presence.
Moreover, it can hold more than it appears, so I felt it could accommodate one-night business trips and travel.
Future Improvement Points
Points that were revealed in the 1st sample and need to be improved in the future include:
- Countermeasures for shoulder strap digging in (adding padding)
- Adjusting the design of the front pockets (asymmetrizing them)
- Reviewing the presence and size of the side pockets
- Reinforcing the strap base (preventing deformation due to load)
These points will be corrected, and we will enhance its perfection for commercialization.
Summary
The large-capacity shoulder bag introduced this time is a new model born from real customer feedback. It can store A4 documents and 13-inch PCs, and features a simple yet luxurious design.
We will continue to make further improvements and move towards commercialization.
