[HushTug] We have decided to sell the clasp wallet!

Hello! I'm Nakajima, a designer at HushTug.

This time, I'd like to tell you all about the new "Clasp Wallet," which has finally been approved for sale, from the background of its development to its detailed features, usability, and storage capacity.

This is a model that we've shown prototypes of several times on YouTube, and we've received many requests and expressions of anticipation in the comments.

In this article, we'll delve into the appeal of the Clasp Wallet, which was created after repeated trial and error to refine it from previous samples.

How the Clasp Wallet was developed

In recent years, HushTug has released several slim wallets to suit the cashless era, including:

・Money clips
・Billfolds

Among these, we received an increasing number of requests such as, "I want a separate coin purse," and "I want an item that is more focused on coins."

While existing smart wallets can be used as coin purses, we re-evaluated the design from scratch and developed the Clasp Wallet as a product specifically for coins.

采用"Tenmizo (top groove) type" clasp

When most people hear "clasp purse," they probably imagine the classic design with a round knob at the top.

However, HushTug adopted the "Tenmizo (top groove) type," which has no knob and a flat finish.

This structure offers the following advantages:

Clean and minimalist appearance
The straight lines of the clasp create an elegant and luxurious feel

However, there are very few artisans who can produce this type of "tenmizo" clasp, and even artisans who make wallets often refuse because it's a different genre.

We commissioned our partner workshop, and after about a year of searching for an artisan, we finally reached product commercialization.

About the leather used in the Clasp Wallet

Both the exterior and interior use Himeji leather.

The leather adopted this time is the same soft and supple leather as HushTug's drawstring leather bags.

The interior is also made of leather, so even if it gets dirty with coins, it can be kept clean by wiping it.

Also, the HushTug logo is on the inside, with silver foil stamping.

How the clasp wallet opens and closes

The clasp wallet opens by pressing the fastener on the back and pushing it up from the bottom.

Unlike typical knob-style clasps, it can be opened and closed with just your fingertips.

Some may find it a bit unfamiliar at first, but once you get used to it, you can operate it quickly with one hand.

About the storage capacity of the clasp wallet

Bills can also be inserted if folded into quarters. Even 10,000 yen bills can be stored, though they may be slightly pinched on the side.

Since it is primarily intended for use as a coin purse, I will show you the storage capacity with coins inside.

The actual test results were:

Plenty of depth even with 500-yen coins
Silhouette barely changed with 27 coins
Wide opening provides high visibility and easy access

This means the Clasp Wallet combines the "ease of access" of a clasp purse with HushTug's characteristic high-quality leather and minimalist design.

Also, if coins are scattered, closing it once and "lightly shaking" it will arrange them, making it exceptionally convenient to use.
