[HushTug] The leather fan sample is complete!
Hello! I'm Nakajima, the designer of HushTug.
This time, we would like to introduce a sample of a new genre that is a little different from our previous products.
Taking a step away from everyday items such as bags and wallets, we have created a " leather fan " that incorporates a seasonal feel and a Japanese aesthetic.
Many of you may be thinking, "What? A fan made of leather?"
But once you see the finished product, you'll realize that the challenge was worth it.
Why "leather fan"?
Actually, this idea is something I've been thinking about for the past 2 or 3 years .
One day, while I was browsing a department store with the CEO, my eye was suddenly caught by a leather fan.
We both got excited and said, "This is so cool!" and thought, "I want to make this someday."
But there were a lot of challenges ahead.
Unless the leather is kept to a thickness of 0.3 mm or less , it will not be easy to fold and will not look beautiful , but we had a hard time finding the technology and craftsmen who could make this happen.
In the midst of all this, a manufacturer in Kyoto who had seen our e-commerce site contacted us, saying they wanted to work together on manufacturing, and that was how we were able to meet a fan craftsman .
Here is the finished leather fan!
Here is the completed example.
After final adjustments, sales are scheduled to begin at the end of July or beginning of August .
○Design features
- Simple and elegant appearance with a black base
・The fan ribs are made of black-dyed bamboo
The leather part has a soft and moist texture and is processed to give it a subtle sheen when exposed to light.
・We plan to laser engrave the logo on the ribs of the fan (currently being adjusted).
○ Attention to detail
- It is thicker (3.5cm) than a regular paper fan, giving it a solid feel when opening and closing.
・You can feel the wind when you fan yourself, and it's a product that feels good to use.
- Carefully dyed even the back of the fan to minimize the unevenness that is typical of leather
○Certification as a Kyoto fan
This folding fan was made by a craftsman who has inherited traditional Kyoto techniques .
It has been certified as a " Kyoto fan ," which is proof that it was made by a craftsman who is a member of the Kyoto Fan Association, and the long-established background of its making is also one of its charms.
Why HushTug is challenging traditional crafts
Up until now, we have focused on bags , but we see potential in the combination of " Japaneseness x leather ."
Take the popular drawstring bag , for example.
Like this leather fan, I would like to continue to carefully create products that people will want to try even if it takes time.
It will also be on display in stores! Please come and experience it for yourself!
After sales begin at the end of July or beginning of August , the product will also be available in HushTug stores.
We hope you will actually pick it up, fan it, and experience the texture and weight of the leather, as well as the comfort of opening and closing it .
The scent also has a subtle, natural smell that is unique to leather, making it a product that can be enjoyed with all five senses.
Lastly, please tell us what you wish existed.
We were able to take on new challenges like the leather fans thanks to our encounters with trustworthy craftsmen and the support of everyone involved .
If you have any ideas for leather items that you think would be fun, please let us know.
It may take time, but I hope to make them into shape one by one .
