[HushTug] We tested the durability of Himeji leather!

Hello, I'm Nakajima, the designer of HushTug.

This time, we will introduce the durability of the leather used by HushTug.

We will explain the characteristics of HushTug leather and how durable it is through experiments.

We actually scraped the leather and dripped water on it to see how much it could withstand.

If you're interested, be sure to watch until the end!

Characteristics of the leather used

N Shrink

At HushTug, we use a type of cowhide called "N Shrink."

It is produced in Himeji, and the surface is treated with a process called "kataoshi."

This is a finish that makes scratches less noticeable by stamping a grain pattern using a press.

In addition, the tanning method is called "chrome tanning" and the leather is dyed with pigments, making it relatively resistant to surface scratches and water stains.

Durability verification: resistance to scratches and abrasions

Scratching leather with nails

First, I tried scratching the surface with my fingernail, but it barely left any scratches.

It seems to be very resistant to light scratches.

However, if you rub it against a wall or scrape it too hard, the surface may become slightly fuzzy.

In such cases, using a complementary color cream will make the stain less noticeable.

This time, we demonstrated using Saphir 's complementary color cream.

You can apply it with a tissue without any problems, but the key is to apply it thinly.

Applying complementary color cream

If you apply it too thickly, it will become hard when it dries.

After applying, let it dry thoroughly, then lightly rub it with a brush to restore its original shine.

This type of care can also help keep scraped corners looking nice, so be sure to give it a try.

Waterproofing test: How well does it repel water?

Waterproofing test

Next, I checked the waterproofness.

We dripped water onto the surface and left it for about 10 minutes...when it was new, it repelled water well and didn't soak in at all.

This is because the surface is pigmented during chrome tanning.

However, because it is natural leather, the fibers may soften over time, causing water to soak in more quickly.

Waterproof spray

In particular, areas with scraped surfaces and corners are prone to water seeping in, so if you plan to use it on a rainy day, we recommend spraying it with waterproof spray beforehand.

The spray will keep the surface water-repellent for 1-2 hours.

What to do if it gets wet

Wiping off water with a towel

If it gets wet, wipe it off with a towel as soon as possible.

In this test, the liquid did not seep through to the back side even after leaving it for 10 minutes, but it may start to seep through if left for more than 30 minutes.

If it gets wet, dry it thoroughly and treat it with cream, and the texture will return to some extent.

We also introduce waterproof care in this video , so please take a look at that as well.
