[Now you're fully prepared for the rain!] We'll show you how to waterproof your leather bag.

Hello! I'm the HushTug musician.

This time, we will introduce how to care for leather using a waterproof spray.

Typhoons have been occurring here and there since late August.

Typhoon 14 is still approaching, and severe storms are forecast for this weekend.

The chances of rainfall are relatively high throughout the year in September and October .

So, if you use leather products, be sure to take this opportunity to learn how to waterproof them!

Why is waterproofing important?

First, let me explain what happens if you don't take care of it.

If leather is left exposed to rain or water, the water will penetrate the leather and cause water stains and the leather will become soft and wrinkled.

Therefore, by taking waterproofing measures in advance, you can prevent water from penetrating and reduce the formation of water stains and wrinkles.

Furthermore, waterproof care not only repels water, but also makes it less likely for dirt to stick, making daily care much easier.

So let's get started by explaining how to do it!

What you need

First, there are three things you need to prepare in advance:

1. Horsehair brush

Use this to remove dust and dirt from the bag before applying waterproof spray.

For reference, here are the items we use at HushTug.

2. Waterproof spray

At HushTug, we recommend using Collonil waterproof spray.

Fluorine-based waterproof sprays do not inhibit breathability, so they are gentle on leather products and are effective against not only water, but also dirt and oil. Choose a fluorine-based waterproof spray.

3. Cloth (for dry wiping)

This is used for finishing after drying. We use the one in the photo below, but basically any cotton material will do.

These are frequently used in leather care, so I recommend having some on hand.

Introducing leather care procedures

Now let me explain how to care for it.

1. Remove dirt and dust from the surface

Use a horsehair brush to remove dirt and dust from the surface of the bag, as shown in the image below.

Brush the surface gently without using too much pressure.

2. Apply waterproof spray outdoors

When outdoors, spray the bag evenly with waterproof spray.

If you hold it too close it will not be evenly applied, so use it about 20 to 30 cm away from the bag.

*Before using the waterproof spray, spray it into an empty space and make sure that it comes out in a mist without any problems before spraying it onto your bag .
If you pour it onto the bag right away, it may end up in grains, which could result in uneven application.

3. Dry

After applying the waterproof spray, leave it for 20 to 30 minutes and let it dry naturally.

If you use it before it has completely dried, it may not be as effective, so be sure to wait until it has completely dried before using it.

4. When dry, wipe with a cloth.

Once the surface is completely dry, wipe it dry with a clean cloth.

This completes the care using waterproof spray!

FAQ

Q. Will it be absolutely safe if I use waterproof care?

A. Even if you have taken waterproof care, it does not mean that it will be completely safe if it gets wet in the rain.
Although the speed at which the dye penetrates the leather will be slower, leaving it for long periods of time is not recommended.
If it gets wet, wipe it off as soon as possible.

Q: How long does the waterproof effect last?

A. The duration of effectiveness varies depending on the type of waterproof spray, but Collonil waterproof spray is effective for about a week.
Therefore, to keep it in good condition for a long time, you should perform regular maintenance.

Finally

Today we're introducing how to waterproof your bag.

This is a basic care method that can be used for any leather product, not just bags.

Not only is it waterproof, but it also makes daily maintenance easier, so please give it a try.
