Hello! I'm the HushTug musician.
Have you ever had the experience of your leather products turning white?
This time, we will tell you the causes of whitening of the leather surface and how to deal with it!
If you are having trouble with your leather turning white, I hope you will read this article and restore it to its original, beautiful condition!
Even if your teeth have not yet turned white, keep this in the back of your mind so that if they do turn white in the future, you can deal with it calmly.
What causes leather to turn white?
First, the reason why the surface of leather turns white is
- Oil or salt is visible on the surface of the leather
- Excess care cream etc. is visible
Possible reasons include:
Oil or salt is visible on the surface of the leather
Some of you may be wondering, "Hmm? Salt on the surface of the leather?"
In fact, salt and oil are used when processing skins into leather, and these salts and oils can sometimes appear on the surface of the leather.
If the whitening is due to salt, you can remove it by wiping it with a wet cloth.
If oil is the cause, place it in a warm place to soften the oil.
As the oil melts, the whitish areas will gradually become thinner.
Once it has thinned, gently rub it with a dry towel.
The stuff between the grains is difficult to remove with a towel, but can be removed with a brush.
Excess care cream etc. is visible
If you apply too much cream when caring for leather, the excess may not be absorbed by the leather and may rise to the surface, causing it to turn whitish.
Here's how to care for your teeth when they turn white due to applying too much care cream!
This time, I will explain in detail how to care for your teeth when they have turned white due to applying too much care cream!
First, let's take a look at some leather products that have turned white due to applying too much care cream. (I marked the whitened areas because I thought it would be hard to see due to the lighting.)
So, let's get started on your care!
What you need
- Horsehair brush
- Soft cloth
- Silicone Polish
1. Remove any dirt or dust from the surface
Use a horsehair brush to brush the entire bag to remove any dirt or dust.
Also, do not scrub too hard at this time in an attempt to remove the white parts as this may result in scratches!
2. Apply silicone polish to the entire surface
Next, to soften the hardened cream, apply silicone polish to the leather and rub it in using the cloth you have prepared.
Here's a little advice!
When applying silicone polish , be sure to apply it evenly, rather than just to the whitened areas.
The reason is that if you apply it only partially, the leather will become uneven and soft.
Therefore, when applying silicone polish , apply it evenly to ensure a clean, even finish.
By the way, HushTug recommends Collonil silicone polish, but any leather stain remover should be fine.

3. Clean the gaps between the grains
Once the cream has softened, use a horsehair brush to clean between the grain.
Then the white part disappeared like this!
Brush the other white areas as well...
Finished!
