Could this be a new product from HushTug?! Introducing various leather materials

Hello!

He is the musician for HushTug.

January is coming to an end, how is everyone doing?

In fact, HushTug's products have now been switched to domestic production and are now able to handle a variety of leathers.

So, this time we will introduce some of the types of leather used for leather products!

The leather we are introducing this time may be used as leather for HushTug products in the future, so please take a look.

Also, the leathers introduced in this article are also available on YouTube. Please check that out too.

There are three types of leather to introduce:

The three types of leather we will introduce this time are:

  • Cord Pan
  • Bridle Leather
  • candy

By the way, cordopan and bridle leather were the top two choices in a survey asking people what kind of leather they would like to see used for wallets.

We will take a deeper look at the characteristics of these three popular leathers.

Cordovan

Cordopan is made from horse leather, especially from the buttocks of a horse.

It is very famous as a rare leather, as only a small amount can be obtained and there are few places that produce it.

For this reason, it is so expensive that it is considered the "highest quality" among the many types of leather available .

It has a beautiful luster and a luxurious look.

In fact, there are several types of cordovan, each with different manufacturing methods.

One of the most famous is "shell cordovan," which was developed and trademarked by Horween Leather Company, a long-established tannery based in Chicago.

Because it is a registered trademark, any leather product labeled as being made from "shell cordovan" is guaranteed to be made by Horween .

It is a high-end cordovan, costing about 1.5 times the price of regular cordovan.

Horween's manufacturing process involves traditional vegetable tanning without the use of chemicals .

The oil is soaked into the horse leather more slowly and carefully than usual. In addition, since it is dyed by hand without the use of machines, the production period takes about six months to ten months.

Characteristics of cordovan

The defining feature of cordovan is the beautiful, lustrous surface of the leather.

The surface of cordovan is free of the wrinkles that are typical of leather, has a fine texture and a smooth feel, and its reflective nature makes it an eye-catching sight.

Water-resistant and easily damaged

Cordovan is also very sturdy and said to be three times stronger than cowhide, making it the perfect leather material for long-term use. However, cordovan is very sensitive to water, and if it gets wet in the rain, water can penetrate the leather and cause stains.

Furthermore, because it is sturdy, there is no need to worry about fatal scratches such as tearing, but it is prone to small scratches.

Bridle Leather

Bridle leather is made from cowhide and is used for horse tack.

The "bridle" in bridle leather refers to the horse tack called a "bridle" that is attached to the horse's head.

Since the tack used to control horses is subjected to considerable stress, bridle leather was developed to withstand such strong forces.

This makes the leather highly durable, thick and hard.

It also has a distinctive appearance, with a white powder-like substance floating on the surface. This is called "bloom," and is the result of the grease and wax that was imprinted during the waxing process solidifying and floating to the surface.

Characteristics of Bridle Leather

With long-term use, the bloom on bridle leather will blend into the leather and fall off, deepening the color. In addition, because vegetable tannins are used in the tanning process, which is one of the manufacturing processes, you can enjoy the "aging" process, where the leather acquires a glossy finish the more it is used.

Easy to maintain

Bridle leather is waxed, so it is water resistant and does not require much maintenance.

When you first start using it, simply dust it off with a soft cloth or brush.

On the other hand, be careful not to add oil with creams or wax, as this can cause the surface to become cloudy and reduce the shine.

candy

The last leather I would like to introduce is made in Korea and called Candy.

The leather has a textured surface and is very soft.

In fact, HushTug is also considering selling products for women, so we have carefully selected soft leather in bright colors.

Candy Features

The texture on the surface of the candy is a natural part of the manufacturing process, and it is characterized by the fact that the appearance varies slightly depending on the location.

When embossing leather to create a grained look, like the leather used by HushTug, the leather inevitably becomes hard, but because the grain is created naturally during the manufacturing process, the leather is very soft.

Sample Production

Notice

We plan to make wallet samples using two of the leathers introduced this time: cordovan and bridle leather.

Candy also plans to produce bags such as sacoche bags, tote bags, and backpacks.

In addition to the above, we plan to try out various types of leather in the future, so if you have any requests for specific leather materials, such as "you would like us to use this one," please let us know in the comments.

Finally

This time, we have introduced the characteristics of three types of leather materials.

We hope you will enjoy making samples using the three materials we have introduced.

Thank you for reading to the end.
