Introducing a project to make a long wallet using shell cordovan!

Hello!

He is the musician for HushTug.

Recently, it has been so cold that it has even snowed in the Kanto region, so how are you all doing?

As we mentioned in a previous article, HushTug now handles a variety of leathers.

So we conducted a survey to find out what kind of leather people would like to have in a wallet, and many people said they wanted a long wallet made of cordovan, so we are currently working on making samples.

So this time, we will introduce the results of the survey conducted by HushTug and the production process of shell cordovan long wallets!

In addition, the content introduced in this article is also available on YouTube, so please check it out.

Contents of the survey

This time, we will introduce the contents of the survey that our customers participated in and the results.

Would you like cordovan on the back of your wallet?

The first item is, "Although the front of the wallet will be made of cordovan, would you also like the back to be made of cordovan?"

The results showed that most people thought that cordovan was fine only on the outside.

There are many other brands that make wallets that use cordovan, but they vary in quality, with some only using cordovan on the front and others using cordovan on the back as well.

However, since cordovan is a high-quality leather, there is a concern that using it on the lining will increase the price.

Additionally, cordovan is easily scratched, so if it were used for the inside of a bag, it would easily get scratched by coins or cards, so some say there isn't much benefit to using it in terms of use.

However, there's no doubt that a wallet with cordovan on both the front and back is very cool!

What color do you like?

The next question is, "What color would be good?"

The survey results showed that "black" was the most popular color.

As for the other colors, there were almost no differences between the options - navy, brown, burgundy (wine red), and dark green.

When I asked a person at a leather supplier, I learned that burgundy is a fairly standard color for cordovan, while black is a standard color for other products.

The shell code version has the added benefit of allowing you to enjoy the uneven texture, so if you want to enjoy the depth of color on the surface, I recommend choosing a color other than black.

On the other hand, the unevenness of the black is almost invisible, but it is recommended if you want to enjoy the glossy finish.

Please watch the video and comment on which color you like best.

What type of wallet do you like?

The next question is, " What type of long wallet do you prefer ?"

The majority of people chose long wallets with round zips and bi-fold wallets.

"The round zipper makes it easy to take things in and out when paying, and it's easy to use a wallet with everything in one place," says Nakajima, who is in charge of development for HushTug, and he also recommends the round zipper.

Design hopes

The last item was, "Feel free to purchase your design preferences."

Among the responses we received, we picked out the following:

  • It would be nice if it had the HushTug stamp on it.
  • A thin wallet is best
  • Coin compartment divided into three sections

It was like this.

First, regarding the point about "it would be nice to have the HushTug logo engraved on it," the current products have the HushTug logo on them, but it seems possible to have the metal fittings engraved or have the logo added upon order.

In the future, it may also be a good idea to offer a service that allows you to engrave an original name.

Many people give leather accessories such as wallets as gifts, so it can create a sense of surprise and originality.

Regarding the request for a "thinner wallet," we are considering making a bi-fold wallet without a coin purse, or one with only a small coin purse, as we plan to take this into account in future product planning.

There was a request for a coin compartment divided into three sections, so it would be interesting if we could release it in the form of a different version of the smart wallet.

In terms of development, it looks like they'll create samples from existing things and then branch out from there.

What's the progress on the shell cordovan long wallet?

What has been decided so far for the sample production is that cordovan and bridle leather will be used for the outer leather.

I am also currently trying to decide on the color of the tanned leather used for the inside.

I'm currently trying to decide on the color of the tanned leather to use on the inside.

I have some samples of the different colors of tanned leather, so I'd like you to take a look at them.

There are many different kinds, such as yellowish, skin-colored, and brownish.

The original color of tanned leather is whitish, and the color gradually changes over time.

What we're thinking about now is that, excluding the yellowish parts, the color will change over time from a flesh-colored tone to a brownish tone, so we're currently discussing where to start.

If I start with the natural color of the tanned leather, there will be too much of a contrast with the outside, so I'm wondering if I should start with something that has a little color so that I can enjoy the changes that occur over time.

This is an area where tastes differ, so I would appreciate it if you could leave a comment.

Finally

This time, we introduced the project for a wallet made from cordovan and the results of the survey.

What did you think?

Our future plans are to have samples made from cordovan completed around mid-February, and once the samples are ready we would like to introduce them on YouTube.

I hope you look forward to the completed sample.

Thank you for reading to the end.
