[HushTug] The first sample of the bi-fold mini wallet is now complete!
Hello, this is Nakajima, a designer at HushTug.
This time, I'd like to introduce a new sample that has just been completed.
The sample created this time is a wallet, a genre that HushTug has not yet developed, so if you are interested, please read to the end.
About the sample
First, here is the completed sample.
This is a bi-fold wallet, a shape you often see from other brands.
HushTug has previously offered long wallets, but since we haven't released a bi-fold type yet, we decided to create a sample this time.
Leather used
The leather used this time is "Pure Shrink", which is characterized by a slight difference in the fine grain of the embossing.
This is the grain of the leather used for HushTug's tote bags, and this is the grain of Pure Shrink.
Comparing them, you can see that Pure Shrink has a more detailed grain.
Also, the surface texture of Pure Shrink is slightly harder and has a firm feel.
Currently, for small leather goods, we are developing products with two types of leather: the standard shrink leather and Pure Shrink.
We are adopting the Pure Shrink type for medium and long wallets, and we plan to gradually transition to it.
Regarding the exterior specifications, it has a painted edge finish, resulting in a very beautiful and smooth edge.
Interior specifications
Next, I will introduce the interior specifications.
The interior has this design, with the logo applied in gold foil stamping.
There are 4 card slots on each side, for a total of 8 cards.
In addition, there are two free pockets on each side.
And the bill compartment is divided into two, allowing you to separate 10,000-yen bills and 1,000-yen bills, or receipts and bills.
While many wallets commonly have a coin pocket on one side, this design features card slots on both sides.
Therefore, there is no space for storing coins.
The interior is entirely finished with leather, giving it a luxurious feel.
Reason for development
Regarding the background of creating this sample, one of HushTug's employees was using a bi-fold wallet from another brand, and the topic of "HushTug doesn't have a bi-fold wallet, does it?" came up, so we decided to try making one.
He was using a wallet without a coin pocket, storing only bills and cards, and carrying a separate coin purse.
Therefore, this sample also has a design that omits the coin pocket.
While there are integrated wallets, the coin compartment can sometimes lose its shape or become bulky, which is why he chose a bi-fold type without a coin pocket.
HushTug offers small wallets such as smart wallets, but we don't yet have products specifically for coin purses, so we are considering developing a coin purse that can be used as a set in the future.
Storage capacity and functionality
Next, I will introduce the storage.
First, it can hold 4 cards on each side, for a total of 8 cards.
The design allows for ample width, making it easy to insert and remove items.
Furthermore, with two free pockets, it can also store cards and receipts.
The bill compartment can separate 10,000-yen bills and 1,000-yen bills, and also store receipts separately.
Although it has a deep storage capacity, putting items too deep might make them difficult to retrieve, so it's best to use it at a moderate depth.
Also, with a stepped design, it can be easily opened by hooking a finger.
Some bi-fold wallets have a stepped design and some don't, but we've added a step to make it intuitively easier to open.
Regarding storage capacity, it can hold 10 cards, several bills, and items in the free pockets, making it a design with more storage capacity than it appears.
By not including a coin compartment, the card storage capacity is excellent.
Summary
This first sample is quite well-finished, and if there are no issues after practical use, it's at a level where it can be commercialized as is.
The quality is such that it might be released in the near future.
