[HushTug] The first sample of the flap shoulder bag is complete!
Hello! This is Nakashima, a designer at HushTug.
Today, I'd like to introduce a new sample that has been created.
The sample created this time is a mini shoulder bag.
Previously, I introduced a shoulder bag with a flap, and this is a different version of that.
Let's get right to the introduction.
Introducing the Completed Sample
Here is the sample that has been completed this time.
A distinctive feature is that it is a shoulder bag with a flap.
The first sample of the shoulder bag sold by HushTug had a flap design, but the final specifications were changed to a design without a flap.
This time, it is the flapped version.
The size is close to a square shape, but we focused on the angle of the flap and fine details, making adjustments in 3cm increments.
As a result, it has a very well-balanced design.
Additionally, there is a zippered pocket on the back for storing smartphones and other items.
A feature of this sample is the use of matte black hardware.
This hardware is used for parts called D-rings and snap hooks, which are rotatable and removable.
The shoulder strap uses polyester material tape.
It uses the same material as the strap of the "2-way square bag" introduced in a previous sample introduction article, and it is thick and solidly constructed.

The width is approximately 38mm (just under 4cm), and it features a length-adjustable loop-type fitting, allowing for free adjustment for people of all heights.
Overall, it has a black-based design, making it easy to match with various fashion styles.
Interior and Storage
Next, I will introduce the interior construction.
First, a smartphone can be completely stored in the zippered pocket on the back.
The opening and closing part of the bag has a magnet, which ensures a secure closure.
For the interior, we used a polyester lining material called "Siesta," the same as in the curved body bag.
Black lining is used, creating a calm impression.
Additionally, a standard pocket called a "flat pocket" is placed inside.
Furthermore, the brand logo is located on the back side of the bag.
Next, let's test the storage capacity.
350ml plastic bottle → can be fully stored
Compact wallet → can be stored
Mobile battery → can be stored
Key case → can be stored
Pouch → can be fully stored
Even when stored, the bag's silhouette remains intact, allowing it to be carried neatly.
Points for Improvement
Through using this sample, several areas for improvement were found, which I will now introduce.
1. Change in plating method for hardware
This time, we used hardware with a new matte black plating process.
While common silver and gold plating is done by immersing the hardware in liquid, this black plating method involves rotating the hardware together with powdered material.
However, it was discovered that the plating peels easily when the hardware comes into contact with itself.
Plating peeling is occurring especially where the D-ring and snap hook interfere, which detracts from the sense of luxury. Therefore, we plan to change the structure to prevent hardware contact.
For example, we are considering a method of sandwiching leather between the hardware to prevent mutual interference.
2. Size adjustment
The current design is close to a square shape, but we plan to extend the vertical length by about 2-3 cm to change it to a more rectangular form.
The shape of the flap and the construction of the gusset are beautifully finished, so these parts will remain as they are.
3. Change in internal logo position
When the flap is opened, it was found that the brand logo on the interior snags when taking items in and out.
Therefore, we plan to change the logo's position and emboss it on the facing (the edge of the bag).
This will reduce stress during storage and make the bag more comfortable to use.
Summary
This mini shoulder bag sample turned out very well in terms of both design and functionality, but some areas for improvement were also found.
We will address these issues to create a more user-friendly product.
