[HushTug] We have decided to sell the clasp wallet!
Hello! I'm Nakajima, the designer at HushTug.
This time, I'd like to introduce our new "Clasp Wallet," which is finally going on sale. I'll cover everything from the background of its development to its detailed craftsmanship, usability, and storage capacity.
This is a model that I've introduced as a prototype several times on YouTube, and it's an item for which we've received many requests and expressions of anticipation in the comments.
In this article, we will delve into the appeal of the clasp wallet, which was created through repeated trial and error to achieve a more refined finish than previous samples.
The story behind the development of the clasp wallet
In recent years, HushTug has released several slim wallets tailored for the cashless era, such as:
・Money clips
・Billfolds
Among these, we received an increasing number of requests for "a separate coin purse" and "an item more focused on coins."
While existing smart wallets can also be used as coin purses, we completely redesigned the product from scratch, focusing purely on a coin purse format. This led to the development of our new clasp wallet.
Adoption of the "Tengu" type clasp mechanism
When most people hear "clasp purse," they probably imagine a classic shape with a round knob at the top.
However, HushTug adopted the "Tengu (天溝)" type, which has no knob and a flat finish.
This structure offers several advantages:

Clean, minimalist aesthetic
- Elegant, high-end feel due to the straight lines of the clasp
However, very few artisans can produce this Tengu type, and even skilled wallet makers often refused because it's a different specialty.
We commissioned a partner workshop and searched for an artisan for about a year, finally reaching product commercialization.
About the leather used for the clasp wallet
Both the exterior and interior are made from Himeji leather.
The leather we used this time is the same supple and soft leather as HushTug's drawstring leather bag.
The interior is also made of leather, designed to be easily wiped clean even if it gets dirty with coins.
Additionally, the HushTug logo is on the inside, with silver foil stamping.
How the clasp wallet opens and closes
The clasp wallet opens by pressing the clasp on the back and pushing it up from below.
Unlike the common knob-type clasp, you can open and close it smoothly with just your fingertips.
Some people might find it a bit tricky at first, but once you get used to it, you can operate it quickly with one hand.
About the storage capacity of the clasp wallet
Even banknotes can be stored if folded into quarters. 10,000 yen bills are a bit tight on the sides, but they can be stored.
It's primarily intended for use as a coin purse, so I'll show you how it feels with coins stored inside.
Our tests showed the following results:
- Plenty of depth even with 500-yen coins
- The silhouette hardly changed even with 27 coins
- The wide opening offers excellent visibility and easy access
We maintained the "easy access" of a clasp purse while achieving HushTug's characteristic premium leather and minimalism.
Additionally, if the coins get jumbled, simply close it and "gently shake" it to realign them, making it exceptionally user-friendly.

The clasp wallet will be available for sale on the official online store starting at 12:00 PM on Sunday, November 30, 2025.
