[HushTug] The first sample of the purse leather wallet is complete!
Hello, this is Nakajima, designer at HushTug.
This time, I'd like to introduce a new sample that has been completed.
The product that has been completed this time is a "coin purse".
In this article, I will introduce the product's design, capacity, and detailed specifications.

Sample Introduction
First, here is the completed sample.
It's a clasp-type coin purse.
Clasp-type purses generally have a "knob" on the metal part, but this one uses a metal clasp without a knob.
I think the absence of a knob gives it a very clean and streamlined design.
About the Material
The leather used is gloss leather, the same as that used for the drawstring leather bag.
It has a soft, moist texture that feels good in the hand.
Initially, I requested for the first sample to be lined with leather, but due to the thickness of the leather and the stress on the part where the clasp touches, there was a possibility of it tearing. Therefore, the lining is made of a different material this time.
The fabric used is called "shantung," which is typically used for wallet card slots and their backings.
For the second sample, we plan to find and use a more luxurious lining.
Since the inside can easily get dirty when coins are stored, I feel that improvements are needed, such as changing to a lining that doesn't show dirt easily.
About the Design
It has a knobless design, and when you hold the metal part and the main body and press, it opens as shown below.
It's designed to snap shut.
The design and size are very clean, and I feel that the completeness is high.
Regarding the clasp, I was told it "might not be possible to make" due to the scarcity of skilled artisans.
Although it had been planned for some time, we have been carefully considering it due to the difficulty of creation and the potential for the hinge to break easily.
Moving forward, we aim to commercialize it after verifying the strength and durability of the metal fittings.
Trying it out in practice
I'll actually put some coins in.
It doesn't have a gusset, but it surprisingly holds a lot.
This time, it contains 15 coins.
Even when closed, there's no strange bulging, and it stays compact.
It's palm-sized and fits well, and the key point is that it doesn't bulge when placed in a pocket.
The coins also line up neatly, making it easy to take them out and pay.
I think it's quite easy to use even without a gusset.
Personally, I feel that this smart and compact size is much better as it isn't bulky.
If I had to say, I thought a divider might be nice, but thanks to the simplicity of not having anything extra, it opens wide and is easy to use.
Going forward, I hope to commercialize it after using it for about a month and verifying if there are any inconvenient points.
So, sales will likely be a bit further in the future.
Thoughts on coin purses
As I mentioned in a previous YouTube video about a bi-fold wallet, since it didn't have a coin purse, I felt the need to create a new one.
As the first step, I'm considering releasing the "clasp-type" one that I'm introducing this time.
Its appearance is clean and the finish is quite good.
Also, there is another type that I prototyped for the coin purse project.
This one is shaped like a pouch, and since the lining can be made of leather, the inside is also leather-lined.
It has a black zipper, and while it's small, it has a good gusset and plenty of capacity.
However, the drawback is that when coins are put in, it becomes taller than expected, and the coins tend to accumulate at the bottom.
It takes a bit of effort to take them out, so I plan to improve it by reducing the height.
The design is somewhat squarish and rectangular, so we are considering changes such as adding more roundness.
In terms of size, I thought a coin purse of this size would be easy to carry, so I made two patterns.
Design-wise, the clasp type is more refined, and I personally prefer it.
The other one is designed for those who want a coin purse at a more affordable price.
I feel that this one is easier to use.
The advantage of such a compact size is that it's easy to carry and can be stored in smaller bags.
Also, small items like this can be made from leftover leather when cutting bags, so we are considering color variations.
Besides black, I think it would be nice to have some accent colors.
Moving forward, I plan to strengthen the product development of coin purses while considering other designs.
Summary
How was it?
This time, I introduced the clasp-type coin purse.
It's palm-sized, thin, and not bulky, making it easy to use.
Although opportunities to use cash have decreased, there are still situations where coins are needed, such as at stores that don't accept cards or when buying drinks from vending machines.
Having a smart and compact coin purse like this would be very convenient.
