Is your wallet okay? Here's how to check for stains and take care of it in just 1 minute!
Hello!
He is the musician for HushTug.
This may be a sudden question, but have you ever taken care of your wallet?
Coins can become dirty and blemished when they rub against your wallet, causing them to turn black without you noticing.
It is also said that having a dirty wallet will bring you bad luck.
So this time
- How to check for dirt in just one minute
- How to care for leather
We will introduce each of them.
It only takes a minute so grab your wallet and check it out!
How to check for dirt in just one minute
Checking for dirt is very easy!
First, prepare your wallet and tissues (a cloth is fine).
Then rub these three areas thoroughly.
- Gusset (the recessed part on the side when the wallet is opened)
- Outside of the wallet
・Inside your coin purse
If the tissue becomes dark, it may be dirty.
Leaving dirt on the leather product can shorten its lifespan.
If you want to enjoy your leather products for a long time, learn the correct care methods to keep them looking good!
What causes leather products to darken?
This does not only apply to genuine leather items, but any object that you touch with your hands will become dirty due to the sebum from your hands (fingerprints) and dust and dirt on your clothes.
It's not noticeable after one or two uses, but it will gradually build up and turn black if you use it every day. The areas that are frequently touched by hands tend to accumulate quickly, and I often see people continuing to use their leather wallets even though they have turned black.
Leaving it as is can cause damage to the genuine leather, and even if you want to use it for a long time, you may end up ruining the genuine leather. If you want to use it for a long time, we recommend that you take regular care of it.
You don't have to send it to the dry cleaners; if you take regular care of it, you can easily keep it clean, so if you want to use it for a long time, give it a try!
Things to prepare before treating dark spots
Here are some essential items to treat dark spots!
If you have something that you haven't prepared yet, I hope this helps.
1. Horsehair brush
Use it to remove dust and dirt from leather.
When you use the bag regularly, dust is likely to accumulate, especially in areas where the leather overlaps and at the bottom of the bag, so be sure to brush it to keep it clean!
2. Leather stain remover
A stain remover that can be used on delicate leather.
It can be used not only for wallets but also for bags and other items, and is highly recommended as it removes dirt thoroughly without putting too much strain on the material!
At HushTug, we recommend Collonil Delicate Cream.
3. Cloth
This cloth is used when using delicate cream.
Since it is used to remove stains, you can even use scraps of old T-shirts as a substitute!
4. Maintenance oil
After cleaning your wallet with delicate cream, be sure to use maintenance oil to replenish the oils as the leather tends to dry out!
At HushTug we recommend mink oil, but any leather maintenance cream will do!
How to care for dark spots on leather products / Steps
We will introduce you to the procedure for caring for discoloration of leather products.
Let's clean leather products by following the correct steps!
1. Remove dirt with a horsehair brush
Before removing dirt, be sure to remove any foreign matter such as dust and sand with a horsehair brush!
If you apply delicate cream while there is still foreign matter remaining, it may cause scratches or the dirt may remain and cause stains.
Brush thoroughly to remove any foreign matter on the surface and make it clean!
2. Remove dirt with delicate cream
Take an appropriate amount of delicate cream onto a cloth and gently rub to remove surface dirt.
The leather product we will be caring for this time is a round zip wallet that I have been using regularly for about a year and will be cleaning it.
Since I use a black wallet, the dirt is not very noticeable, but if you look at the cloth you can see that there is dirt that is difficult to see with the naked eye.
Regularly clean the leather surface to remove any dirt.
3. Moisturize with maintenance oil
After thoroughly removing dirt from the entire leather product with delicate cream, moisturize the leather with maintenance oil.
Applying too much maintenance oil can cause dirt, so if there is any excess oil, be sure to wipe it off thoroughly with a dry cloth.
You can find detailed care instructions using maintenance oil here.
