1. The name "Kyo-Sensu" is exclusively permitted for members of the "Kyoto Sensu Uchiwa Commercial and Industrial Cooperative."
The conditions are strict, requiring that all parts – the fan face, ribs, and finishing – must be domestically produced, primarily in Kyoto and Shiga.
HushTug's leather fan meets all these conditions as a Kyo-Sensu.
2. Kyo-Sensu making involves approximately 88 processes, including rib making, paper making, painting, and assembly, most of which are done by skilled artisans.
#4Commitment to the leather fan
1. Sized at 7 sun (approx. 21 cm), which is the most comfortable size for a fan, it can be used comfortably by men and women of all ages.
2. To achieve a texture similar to Japanese paper, the grain side of the leather is skived to a mere 0.3mm thinness.
Achieving this delicate thinness while accounting for individual differences in leather thickness, hardness, and wrinkles requires the skill of an experienced artisan.
Currently, only 2-3 factories in Japan possess such technology.
3. Garment leather, which is supple and soft, is used for thin skiving.
Garment leather is a type of leather with moderate elasticity used in clothing products such as leather jackets and coats.
In addition to chrome tanning, we use a combination tanning process to further enhance its softness.
4. Both the fan's leather and bamboo ribs are dyed a deep black, creating an elegant and luxurious feel. We paid close attention to how the delicate luster emerges when hit by light, further enhancing its sophisticated impression.
5. The back of the fan is reinforced with ultra-thin silk, balancing durability and beauty.
6. Compared to paper fans, our leather fan has a more substantial feel and is less permeable to air, allowing for a stronger breeze when fanned.
7. Each fan is carefully crafted by hand by Japanese artisans. We utilize advanced techniques to pursue perfection.
