[New Product Development Series 3] How are briefcases made in Mongolia?
Hello! I'm the HushTug musician.
This is the third installment in our new product development series .
If you haven't read the previous article yet, please check it out from below!
- [New Product Development Series ①] Revealing how a briefcase is planned and developed!
- [New Product Development Series ②] Let's make a briefcase "sample"
As I explained in [New Product Development Series 2] , we produced a sample briefcase in Japan around February of this year.
This time, we will tell you about the process of sample production on the Mongolian side and the production scene!
Transporting sample products to Mongolia
First, the samples made in Japan need to be transported to Mongolia to be made by Mongolian craftsmen.
Shipping is by air or sea.
Although air travel is quicker, it is a bit more expensive.
So, when there isn't much time until the release date of a new product, I sometimes use airplanes, but normally I try to use sea freight whenever possible.
We are also taking note of the recent delays in shipping due to the effects of COVID-19.
As an aside, regarding the briefcase this time, our CEO, Toda, happened to be going to Mongolia at just the right time, so we asked him to carry it with him.
Mongolian craftsmen making sample products
Once the samples made in Japan arrive in Mongolia, Mongolian craftsmen will finally begin making samples of the new products.
The briefcase shown in the photo above is a sample made in Japan.
We will create it using this briefcase as a reference.
By the way, in Mongolia, we hire craftsmen with particularly high skills as sample craftsmen.
This is a very important step as they produce sample products before mass production.
What if the sample is completed?
Once the sample product is completed, the Mongolian and Japanese sides will first hold a web conference to identify any problems and areas for improvement.
In the past, there were regrettable mistakes where parts that had been requested to be corrected were not improved, so we are now in closer contact with each other. (Laughs)
When checking, since it is impossible to see the actual product, we check even the smallest details from various perspectives using images and videos.
If there are any points or problems that concern us, we will aim to improve them in the next sample production.
And by repeating these efforts without compromise, the product is finally complete.
Samples are made 2-4 times in consultation with the Mongolian side. The most we have made so far has been body bags, which we made 4 times.
lastly
What did you think?
This time, as part of our new product development series, we introduced how a new product is developed from the sample made in Japan to its completion!
Although nothing has been decided yet, we would like to ask our ambassadors to cooperate with us on this briefcase and improve it based on their feedback on the sample. We will let you know again once the details have been decided!
Thank you for reading to the end today.
