We use luxurious cowhide produced by tanners in Himeji, a city famous for its leather.
Enjoy the strength, suppleness, and beautiful changes that occur over time of Himeji leather, which is made using traditional techniques cultivated over more than 65 years of history.
#3 "Kyoto Fans" from Kyoto, where Japanese tradition lives on
1. The name "Kyoto Sensu" is only permitted to be used by members of the Kyoto Sensu Uchiwa Commerce and Industry Cooperative Association.
The conditions are strict, and all of the fan surfaces, ribs, and finishes must be made domestically, primarily in Kyoto, Shiga, and other areas.
HushTug's leather fan is a Kyoto fan that meets all of these requirements.
2. There are approximately 88 steps involved in making a Kyoto fan, including making the frame, making the base paper, painting, and assembling, most of which are done by hand by skilled craftsmen.
#4 The attention to detail in leather fans
1. The 7 sun (approximately 21 cm) size is the most convenient size for a fan, and can be used comfortably by people of all ages and genders.
2. In order to achieve a texture similar to that of washi paper, the grain side of the leather is thinned to just 0.3 mm.
It takes the skill of a skilled craftsman to achieve this delicate thinness while taking into consideration individual differences in the thickness, hardness, wrinkles, etc. of the leather.
Currently, there are only two or three factories in Japan that possess this technology.
3. In order to create a thin sheet, we use garment leather, which has a supple and soft texture.
"Garment leather" is a type of leather with moderate stretchability that is used for clothing products such as leather jackets and coats.
In addition to chrome tanning, we use leather that has been combined tanned to bring out even more softness.
4. The leather on the fan surface and the bamboo on the ribs are both dyed a deep black, creating an elegant and luxurious feel. When exposed to light, a delicate luster emerges, further enhancing the sophisticated impression.
5. The back of the fan is reinforced with an extremely thin layer of silk, making it both durable and beautiful.
6. Compared to paper fans, they are heavier and less permeable to wind, so you can feel a stronger breeze when you raise them.
7. Each piece is carefully handcrafted by Japanese artisans, who use advanced techniques to pursue perfection.

#7 How this product came to be produced and sold
This time, the leather fan was made by a long-established fan shop founded in the Edo period.
For several years before the project began, I had a strong desire to make a leather fan. However, I had difficulty finding a craftsman who could actually create a genuine leather fan, which requires advanced skills.
During this time, someone from Kyoto contacted us and said they wanted to work together on planning and production, and through this connection we were able to meet a craftsman who could make fans.
This is a product that HushTug is proud of, as it is a long-held dream that has finally come true.

At HushTug, we want to preserve traditional and excellent manufacturing techniques for future generations, so we are committed to selling our products at fair prices, raising prices if necessary, and paying our craftsmen a fair wage.
In addition, to prevent customers who have supported HushTug up until now from being disappointed that the price is now cheaper than when they first bought it, we will not be lowering the prices of our products in the future, so the current price will be the lowest price.

Due to the characteristics of genuine leather, using it while wet may cause color transfer or fading.
Please be careful in the summer when you tend to sweat a lot.
